Dover Nyelvi Centrum offers Cambridge Examination preparation courses for FCE (First Certificate in English), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English), and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English). Classes are taught in small groups (maximum seven students) by an experienced native speaking teacher. Courses cover all aspects of the FCE, CAE and CPE examinations, as well as exam techniques.  All courses are based on the most up-to-date course books, language materials produced by the teacher and other supplementary resources such as practice exam papers, handouts and worksheets.


C O U R S E   D E T A I L S

FIRST CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH (FCE)

FCE is ideal if you want to work or study abroad or to develop a career which requires language skills.  FCE indicates sufficient proficiency in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial in many industries, in particular tourism, where contact with English speakers is required.  Successful candidates have the ability to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries, and to cope with some non-academic training courses and simple textbooks and articles.                                      

FCE is a one (or two) semester course for upper-intermediate level students. It is aimed at both students who want to work towards the FCE examination and those who simply want to improve their English at this level. The course covers all areas of the exam: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Use of English and Listening.  In addition, students will develop their vocabulary and improve their knowledge of grammar.

The course is topic based and will include some of the following topics:

Crime, Punishment and the Law
Books and Reading
Entertainment
House and Home

The FCE is offered as a paper-based or computer-based examination throughout the academic year. It consists of five papers:

Paper 1:  Reading (1 hour)
Paper 2:  Writing (1 hour 20 minutes)
Paper 3:  Use of English (45 minutes)
Paper 4:  Listening (40 minutes)
Paper 5:  Speaking (14 minutes)

CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED ENGLISH (CAE)

This course is ideal for secondary, college and university students of English. Studying CAE helps you to improve your language skills and use them in a wide range of contexts. The exams are based on realistic tasks, and indicate the ability to use the language in practical situations. If you are successful, you will be able to participate in meetings and discussions, expressing opinions clearly, and be able to understand and produce texts of various types, including business letters and reports. You will also be more than capable of following university courses taught in English.

CAE is a one or two semester course. It is aimed at both students who want to work towards the exam and those who simply wish to improve their English skills at an advanced level. The course covers all areas of the exam: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking and English in Use. In addition, students will develop their vocabulary in many areas and improve their knowledge of grammar.

The CAE is offered as a paper-based or computer-based examination throughout the academic year. It consists of five papers:

Paper 1:  Reading (1 hour 10 minutes)
Paper 2:  Writing (1 hour 30 minutes)
Paper 3:  Use of English (1 hour)
Paper 4:  Listening (40 minutes)
Paper 5:  Speaking (15 minutes)

CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH (CPE)

Proficiency is the highest level Cambridge ESOL examination. If you are able to communicate effectively in almost any English-speaking context, have passed the Cambridge CAE or Rigó Felsőfokú, and are approaching a high standard of spoken English, this is the course will be suitable for you. As all Cambridge classes at Dover, the CPE course is aimed at both those who wish to work towards the Proficiency exam and those who simply want to develop their English to a very high level. The course is idea for college and university students of English, as well as teachers of English who would like to develop their English knowledge.

Proficiency is a two semester course. The course covers all areas of the exam: Listening, Reading, Writing, Use of English and Speaking. In addition, students will develop their vocabulary in many areas and expand their knowledge of idioms, phrasal verbs, fixed phrases and collocations, as well as areas of advanced grammar. Students will read a wide variety of newspaper and magazine articles for discussion in class.

Paper 3:  Use of English (1 hour 30 minutes)
Paper 4:  Listening (40 minutes)
Paper 5:  Speaking (19 minutes)
